About German Shepherds

German Shepherds are large, athletic dogs known for their loyalty, courage, and versatility. They're extremely intelligent and eager to learn, which makes them excellent at many jobs including police work, military service, search and rescue, and as guide dogs for the blind.

Originally bred in 1899 by Captain Max von Stephanitz to be the ideal herding dog, German Shepherds have evolved into one of the most recognizable and respected breeds worldwide. They form strong bonds with their families and can be reserved with strangers, making them excellent watchdogs.

These dogs need significant daily exercise and mental stimulation. Without proper outlets for their energy and intelligence, they can become destructive or develop behavioral problems. They shed considerably year-round and have two major shedding seasons annually.
